Re: squeeling of sorts when gassing the beast
Is it possibly a sheared exhaust manifold stud and/or warped manifold, as they are said to squeal due to escaping exhaust gas when engine is revved? Quite common. Have a search on here for more discussion on it. Good luck - keep us posted

That does indeed sound like the famed No1 manifold stud. Type in MANIFOLD and STUD into the search bar, make a brew and have trawl through the threads to gen up on tips and methods to best tackle this problem ...

Re: squeeling of sorts when gassing the beast
It shouldn't be doing any major damage, but it'll be costing you a bit more in fuel & I reckon you risk distorting the manifold the longer you leave it, but I could be wrong.
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.
Re: squeeling of sorts when gassing the beast
cheers, i have noticed a bit of an extra thirst from the beast lately, how do i get the best view of the manifold? i was going to start by removing the insulator?????

Re: squeeling of sorts when gassing the beast
have removed the insulator and had a look round the manifold cant find any busted nuts or sheared bolts this squeeling only occurs when the beast is in a gear and moving no fetid screeching when revving in neutral or park???????????

If it is manifold/stud there will be black smoke residue around the area gasses are escaping.
If theres no sign of that maybe you should be looking at a slipping belt . . .
My money's on the manifold though from the sound of it.

Re: squeeling of sorts when gassing the beast
just had stud 1 go on me.... no soot was visible,
but as you look at the exhaust manifold, at the back of the alternator, the common stud to go is the one that you can see without removing the heat shield
but that was a squeal above about 4000 rpm, so only noticed when pulling away sharply or on kickdown

Re: squeeling of sorts when gassing the beast
the manifold itself is clear, the turbo is cover in a very thin black shiny substance could this be the source of the fetid squeel?

Re: squeeling of sorts when gassing the beast
If the squeeling comes in at around 2000 to 2200 revs, could it just be the turbo doing what it should? I can hear mine kick in, it may just be your seat clips need bending in a bit to tighten it down a bit to quieten the noise in the cab?
Could be a slipping belt? carefully squirt a small amount of wd40 on the belts, ensuring you don't get any in the alternator, or get some proper belt dressing, if the squeeling stops temporarily, you've nailed it, you can then replace the belts &/or give the pulleys a quick deglaze as necessary.
