96 2.5 td bongo rattle

hi i have a rattle from engine which when steering turned either way seems to go a lot quiter. any had this noise before not sure if power steering pump or could it be timing chain. could any one help. Thanks Mark

Check the level of your power steering fluid and top up with Automatic Transmission Fluid if necessary (Dexron 3 is the grade used in the Bongo). They don't have timing chains, it's a timing belt.

power steering fluid ok. im pretty sure they have a chain from pump to crank then a belt from pump to cam i could be wrong i stand to be corrected if i am. thanks mark

Gear drive from crank to pump curly - its your PS pump thats noisy - mine's the same for around 5 seconds - til pressure build lubes/quietens the pump gears. If longer time than that the pump's probably fubared

thanks for that. The noise dosnt go even when warm. ill go and see if i can source a pump and give it a try. Thanks for putting me write on the drive to the pump. Just had a thought do they have a 2 piece bottom pully with rubber damper which could go quiet when load put on it through turning steering?
