Veg Oil for pre-MOT clearout
Just read on another post about a putting a bit of vege oil in the Bongo to give a bit of a clearout before the emissions test but before I bung a bottle of Tesco's finest into my fuel tank, could someone take me through this step by step as I am sure there are a few details and caveats that may help other forum members too
Have always used Redex in the past - but willing to try anything sensible which my "imaginary friends" (as you have become known) suggest to keep my Bongo healthy.
NB Did a search for this as am sure it must be here somewhere, but obviously using the wrong search terms (again)

I'd bung about 10-15 litres in (if you haven't used it before) when it's down to less than half a tank, then top up with diesel to mix it in, that's it really.

Good lord, that's a lot of vege oil (about the same amount as my mother in law uses for cooking in about six months
).
Thanks Kirsty, I'm glad I asked - wouldn't have guessed that much at all.

Sounds a reasonable amount to me
- then thrash the nuts off it for a mile or two (Italian tune-up)

Alison that is just a blip of oil, lol, considering I use 30 litres at a time and have done so for the last seven years, especially before the mot, which the bongo has flown with not even an advisory. I make sure she is warmed up before the test and just go for a spin. Good luck.

never bothered at this years MOT.....never thrashed it before either...... sailed the emissions test no probs.....
mind you...now I have stated using Veg oil it has got to be a run up to see my pal and put the Bongo on his emission tester to see the difference now

Re: Veg Oil for pre-MOT clearout
Just a silly question but if you give the Bongo a really good warm up and a good thrash before going in for an MOT if they then don't test for a few hours will this make a difference?? - I have yet to put any veggie oil in mine and it passed it's last MOT with no bother.
Be nice to everyone they might be nice back.

It should be fine Aitch, as long as it's had a bit of a run beforehand to blow out any crud, you'll only have an issue if it never gets a decent blast, which is a danger if you normally drive quite sedately & economically, every diesel needs a blast every now & then.

Re: Veg Oil for pre-MOT clearout
As this isn't my first diesel, I'm used to the thrashing bit. I've always hated it but I really don't think I can do it to my Bongo
Will have to try very hard to pluck up the courage.
Most fun I ever had was "racing" a hearse down the Camborne bypass. The driver was obviously doing the same thing. Maybe I should ring round a few funeral directors and see if anyone else is going for a burn and have another "race". Will take my mind off what the thrashing is doing to the engine
