spare wheel carrier

hi all i am-new to this great forum/club ,i have just bought a ford frendee 2.5 diesel and have discovered the spare wheel carrier is missing had one sent in the post today its small with 4 bolt holes in it any chance of a pic or a diagram of how to fix many thanks for a fountain of knowledge and it seems a very friendly club :) 8)

Welcome to the madhouse :D
The spare wheel carrier is just a cable, under the rear of the car, with a rectangular piece of metal that fits through the centre hole of the wheel (you can see the recess where the wheel fits). It's wound up and down using the long bar clipped into the roof of the little compartment in the step inside the sliding door. The bar fits through a hole, that can be seen when the tailgate is open, about 6 inches to the right of centre and just below the floor level.
If you've still got the original skinny spare, scrap it now - the tyres/valves have usually perished with age :twisted:

thanks for that its ok i have a spine prob and i cant get down to see that far . i have got a standard road wheel as a spare and 18 inch rx 8s on the van thanks again its easy when you know all the little quirks of jap cars i used to have a delcia and that was the same it takes time to find it all out thaks again :)

I'm sure someone once posted a comment that the winding mechanism was compatible with one from a Transit, but I don't have any more details than that.
