Help identifying hoses/pipes please

Spotted this yesterday, can someone let me know what these hoses are? Tried a search, no joy.
Not a great view either i'm afraid, 2 hoses directly above/below each other near the expansion tank.
Centre of pic showing some sign of corrosion.


They come into the cab in the passenger footwell.

I think/hope it looks worse than it is.

Cleaned up a little, the hard plastic seems in good nick.

Is it the clips i should be worried about? Thanks in advance.

It's the hoses to & from the front heater matrix.
God knows what the gunk is
Was it damp at all?
Have you been losing coolant at all?
If you squeeze the rubber hoses, do they feel stiff & maybe a bit "crunchy"?
What are the rest of the coolant hoses like? - especially the large one under the drivers seat at the front of the engine going forward to the rad & the one at the lower rear going over the starter motor to the rear heater. May be time to get new hoses if they're showing signs of age, either going hard or swelling up.

Hi thanks for your reply, it's been nothing but damp here lately, i dont think the drainhole bottom centre of the windscreen can cope with the heavy downpours we've been getting. The gunk was greenish and the top hose clip was a bit damp, had to top up just a little a while back but no noticeable loss lately.
I look over the hoses fairly regularly and they look ok, i'll do a closer inspection and check the feel of them, may be time to replace some of them as you suggest. Cheers.

If the drain hole at the bottom of the windscreen isn't coping, that isn't a good thing as it means the water is probably overflowing onto the front fan & it's workings (possiblt causing the deposits you had) & stands a good chance of killing it - http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... 43&t=28727. Is it getting blocked or is it just not big enough?

In the TOP photo.....the fatter hose goes to the top of the Radiator and looks o.k. to me...the brown/orange stain on it is from a previous eruption from the header tank.
The other smaller hose goes towards the back and is part of the "bypass/warm up" circuit.

dont know about the other photos.

He's asking about the two hoses in the background going into the bulkhead on the first pic Haydn, the ones with the clips on encrusted with some sort of deposit.

That 'crusty deposit' looks suspiciously like self-expanding foam to me.

Possibly the grommets which should (?) be round these pipes to stop external rainwater from getting into the cabin through the bulkhead have rotted away, and a previous owner has 'sealed' the bulkhead with squirty foam? (Which isn't a great solution. Been there, tried that)

Yes you're right, very soon after i got the Bongo, on one of my first outings i think i had an airlock incident, heard the bubbling sounds, got away with it though, no probs in the years since and the coolant was replaced last autumn.
Due an mot and service soon, i'll get them to double check the hoses clips.
It may well be foam right enough and the corrosion around the clips caused by the dampness, i'll give it a clean, would spraying some wd 40 dry it for a few weeks till the service?
I usually keep that drainhole clear but the sort of rain we've been having lately could have been too much for it, think i read on here about someone drilling larger holes and attaching hoses to cope with downpours, will do a search.

Don't put wd40 or anything on it to dry it out, it'll just make it oily, clean it off & then you can keep an eye & see if you get any leaks or anything.
