I SERIOUSLY NEED H-E-L-P !!!!!!!!!!!!

Post by alibabi » Wed Jul 22, 2009 6:08 pm

I bought a Mazda Bongo 2.5 turbo diesel 4 months ago, for the past 3 months and 3 weeks the wee darling has put her feet up and refuses to move out of garage number (3)

The problem is, YES you guessed it overheating and throwing coolant back out the expansion tank.

The Bongo has had two new cylinder heads, a water pump, four thermostats, the coolant system has been checked for blockages, the block has been checked and its been bled to within an inch of it's life.

Three garages have had a go and three have failed, as you can imagine its costing me a fortune.

I need a real Bongo expert to sort this problem out. I live in Scotland and I'm prepared to transport it anywhere in the UK for one last attempt.

If anyone out there can recommend someone who really knows what they are doing, please let me know.

Wheelquick in Wigan or further South to Ian Taylor in Market Drayton

Ian has just ours (head, hoses and Rad) so I can happily recommend. Also wheelquick are VERY recommended by a lot of people on the forum, they did our exhaust a last year.

Have you had the rad changed yet as I think that unblocking one is nigh on impossible.

Best of luck with it

Sorry to hear your bad news. Take a look at my post here http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... ck#p300420

I had similar symptoms & had done the whole head pressure test, skim, re-assemble & bleed thing. The bits I did second time round was to 'deck the block' & use Wellseal - both things that could be missed by a garage who do not specialise in Bongos.

The other very rare failure is where there is a split in one of the cylinder bores where the water jacket passed so the combustion gases are blowing into the cooling system. I have only come across one member with this problem & the only solution is a replacment engine.

In terms of where to take it, I would recommend Bellhill Garage near Bath, but that's a hell of a way from Scotland. definitely worth a call to Tom there as he really knows his stuff.

Good luck - keep us posted on progress.

Thanks guys, The radiator is less than two years old and there seems to be a substantial flow rate when you disconnect the top and bottom hoses and pour water through the radiator.

All the mentioned garages are well thought of on here, and there is a list of recommended ones in the Member's Area,

Good luck. [-o<

Just a thought.
Would it perhaps be more cost effective to buy a secondhand engine and transport that engine into your Bongo rather than shipping your Bongo halfway down the country only to find that it may need a new engine anyway ?

Hope you get it sorted.
