battery playing up

Post by Freds boss » Tue Jul 21, 2009 6:36 pm

Hi all,

We are having a little trouble with our battery, keeps going flat but recharges quickly and all the cells look healthy bubbling away after charge. My question is this if the battery is duff what do I replace it with? There is not a leisure battery on this as BDC informed me when we met so, do I just replace the battery or do I get a special to use as extra.

Just read on another post about the temp guage not moving off five to as mine never moves does that mean my engine could be overheating and I dont know it? We have done a few bits and bobbing about camping and Freds never put a foot wrong till this battery busin ess. I think my confidence has had a bit of a knock need to know best way to keep on moving, any advice.

Who is the best to go to for get you home service, I have Toyota for my car but have not at this time got any cover for either the Bongo or the Eriba van although both are fully comp insurance.

Hi there,

Firstly a car battery is slightly different to a leisure battery. Car batteries are designed to provide a high output for short periods of time (cranking power) due to the demands of the starter motor. Leisure batteries are for low power requirements over a longer period of time.

I'm not sure of the battery type you really need, I'm sure others will be along to comment.
I'd be tempted to get it tested first, plenty of places will do this for free. Could be it's okay and something else is amiss such as a drain from say a CD player. Worth checking quickly.

Regarding breakdown services I have been with GEM for a few years on and off and they are well priced for the services offered. I have recovery reclaim joint, myself and lady, any car we are in. Just won autoexpress review too. Again a matter of personal choice as there are many companies offering this.

you somuch I didnt know the batteries were different but now L know what to look for and as you suggest will get battery tested. I have never had an old car before swap mine shopping car every two or three years or so. Only needa small one to put buggy in and have hoist in back to lift it in and out.

I welcome all advice whatever its about as I am just aperson who knows you put fuel in and check oil and water and tyres when I start falling down holes in road.
