Anyway, I've had a go myself tonight and I couldn't hear or smell anything whilst it was sat on the drive so took it up the road with the passenger engine cover up. I kept an eye on the temp gauge but it seemed normal and nothing apparent. However just as I was about a mile away I started to hear it and rather it being a screach it was more of a low pitched whistle which tended to INCREASE when it was at IDLE. When I was accelarating it died off a bit but slowing down brought it back, it was then that I noticed THE TEMP GAUGE RIGHT OVER IN THE HOT!!
I was a couple hundred of yards from home so nursed back, then turned it all off but kept the fans running until it has now cooled down. When I turned it off there was some gurgling and bubbling going on but not a lot of steam. I posted a topic last week about having to top up the header tank once in a while but with no obvious leak so I'm guessing this has something to do with it...

1. What are the chances of me doing any lasting damage?
2. Any ideas on what has caused it?
Thanks for any help.
