Squeaking from Turbo is driving me mad!!!!!!!

Not sure what is happening with this but it is drivin me mad !!!
When i pull away it gives a loud squealing sound on acceleration, then after about 2500 revs it is fine....as if belts were worn.....so changed drive and aircon belts and still noise is there !!
After a closer listen it seems to be from the turbo.......although after inspecting the turbo it seems to be ok ( no excesive movement from the internal turbo fan ).
Drive well, runs well, ticks over well everything is good apart from that bloody noise !!!
Anyone had this prob and how did you sort it ?????
thanks
kev

might be a manifold stud thats sheared but by the sound of it the turbo is FUBAR.

Agreed, probably a sheared manifold stud....if you drive gently do you still get the squeal?

Not saying yours is def' the same problem but I had a very similar problem and it was a sheared stud, have a look at the passenger side of the engine, normally the front ones go. But before replacing the stud, get a 'proper' engineer to sort the manifold as it probably has warped it will need skimming flat....if you don't get it skimmed it will pop the stud again sooner rather than later.

Strangely, I was at Waycars an hour ago when you posted this, popped by to get his ear on an annoying noise that has gradually manifested itself over the last few weeks. It sounds exactly like a slipping belt but only comes in between 1500/2500 revs & all belts appear to be okay.
General consenus seems to be the turbo has blown a bearing. This also backs up the increase in oil consumption over the last few months & billowing smoke when gunning it up hills.
My money is on you & me having the same problem. Luckily, I have a spare turbo (courtesy of Wayne - again) & will get it sorted over the weekend.
I'll keep you posted as to how I get on.

I picked up a spare turbo a while back when it seemed that getting through a litre of oil every thousand miles may have been a turbo problem.
At this time it looks like that was a wise move.
No smugness, just forethought.

Hello 'The guvnor'... a forum 'search' will reveal that squeals have generally been found to be caused by a snapped manifold stud, slipping/worn belts, stuck 'cold climate' exhaust valve, exhaust manifold gasket, damaged exhaust baffle, a pinprick hole in a hose, or a turbo problem.
You've only had the bongo for 5 days, if you bought it from a dealer take it back and ask them to fix it.

Fair call, there could well be many causes but - in my case, No 1 stud is still solid, (I've heard the famous snapped stud sound before on z00nons, mines not as loud) all belts are tight & true. winter pack switch is disabled, not to mention my s/s exhaust has an amplifier as opposed to a baffle & has been on for nearly a year without previous hassle.
The noise is coming directly from the turbo & getting worse by the day.
I'll get the turbo changed & see if things improve.
Watch this space.

Well thankfully it isnt the turbo
But it is a sheared manifold bolt, well 2 to be exact !
As for taking it back to the dealer I dont really think i will bother. Tbh I am going to france next week and I would rather be sure the job is done properly and not bodged ! Peace of mind and all that
Thanks very much for the help guys.

Sheared manifold stud, I reckon that's the commonest cause of bongo squeals. Luckily you don't have the same problem as mr munkey!

Stand By Your Beds!
Turbo checks out as okay.
Its the exhaust manifold gasket on mine.

Good one, I've added it to the list.
