Roof tent rivets

Post by nic » Mon Jun 15, 2009 9:23 pm

Hi all,

I am attempting to replace the ripped roof tent on my bongo and have been following the guide on http://www.allansvehicleservices.co.uk/32132.html
Having removed the existing tent I have found that the fabric is held onto the frame with some small rivets so it will not slide off. Has anyone come up with a good trick for getting the fabric off the frame? If not it will be time for the bradawl and hammer.

Cheers, Nic

I don't know of a trick for getting these out, but hubby said he'd use an electric drill and a VERY light touch. Or the bradawl as you suggested.
Allans Garage retired. Try PGS (Plymouth Garage Services) or Mayflower Auto Services Plymouth

After a long hard look it seem easy enough to remove the top frame by popping out 4 rivets. The bottom frame looks to have been riveted together into a single semi-rigid piece, with metal corner-pieces between each of the aluminium lengths.

I take it most bongos do not have this rigid lower frame? If so then I guess I am just going to have to work out a way to dis-assemble it without damaging it which is looking pretty tricky.
