Droplinks advice

Post by Nippon Tuck » Tue Jun 09, 2009 9:13 pm

Can anyone give me some advice. I want to replace the Antiroll bar Droplinks front and back. What parts do I need as I want to get everything replaced in one go. Is there anything else I should get check/replace while my mechanic is down there.

Also, what should I expect to pay for labour on this job?

Thanks for reading.

Labour really shuldn't be much UNLESS the nuts are all seized and have to be ground off (and even then it shouldn't be a huge bill). You need

2 x rear droplinks
2 x rear anti-roll bar bushes
2 x steel u-brackets for the ARB bushes (the old ones will be tired and due for fatigue failure - it happened to me)

and repeat the same list of things for front of Bongo but replace 'rear' with 'front'. Bongobits do a good service, Bongo Shop likewise (but may be dearer) or you can get them off ebay (Vauxhaull Vectra can be used for front droplinks but different brands seem to have different durability though mine have performed well - some of the Bongo ones on ebay have not performed well, and all are more expensive than Vectra ones)

I did my own, but I also bought new bushes and brackets, might be a good buy for you, also when I took off the brackets one of the studs sheared off and I had to grind and drill for a nut and bolt replacement, not sure but I think this may be a common thing

Hi, I also need my drop links doing, according to the garage I only need one front and both the rear...will it be ok to only get one front done or should I be asking for all of them to be done at the same time?
After doing a forum search, I have read some threads that there has been trouble with the quality of some drop links, even the genuine mazda ones?
This has left me confused....
Which ones to get? and Who to get them from?
Genuine Mazda? Vectra? Pattern Parts...too much choice on ebay and a big variation in pri
Can anyone advise :?:
Thanks

If your garage are recommending changing one front & one rear - change your garage IMO. Should only be done in pairs.
In theory the original Mazda parts should be the ones to go for, but there does seem to be a quality control problem that has no definitive answer.
Buy the expensive ones & hope/assume they'll last, or go for the cheap vectra ones & factor in more frequent replacement?
There is no right & wrong & I don't know what Ill do if/when mine need replacing for a third time.

Hi missfixit70

I am interested as to why the drop links should only be done in pairs? As long as the drop link that is being replaced is identical to the old one that is already fitted then surely that is all that matters. I agree that it may be a case if you getting one done you may as well do both but I was just wondering if there was any other basis for recommending to change your garage. If it is an issue of safety then really that should be stated. Not trying to be too sensitive but I just think it's wrong to tell someone to change their garage without any justification.
