12.6 DC

Hi

I have a mp3 speaker dock that I use in the house.

It has a DC adapter in the back which says 12.6V DC IN.

Will it be safe to plug it in to the lighter socket which is just 12V.

The lighter socket ISN'T just 12v it can vary from less than that to almost 14v when the engine is running.

The adaptor is 12.6v all the time - the lighter socket isn't.

I didn't say that - I certainly wouldn't use them while the engine is running as that would be giving about 13.7v.

Hi,

You can get a 12v power adaptor from maplins. They do a couple of models, both £11.99, but basically it allows you to plug it into the cigarette lighter, select a voltage then using the relevant tip (it comes with several) you then power a device such as yours. Does 2 things, regulates the voltage to what you set it at, and also limits the current that is supplied/drawn.
