Speedo jitters

Post by CADMAN » Sat May 30, 2009 8:35 am

Not sure about this but a couple of the roads in this neck of the woods have speed indicators to make you feel good when you see "48mph thank you" but when glancing down to the speedo it is indicating over 80k (50mph), anyway I tried again only going faster (don't tell anyone) [-X 60 miles and all it showed was 50 thank you, so is there a problem with my speedometer. I have also noticed it seem to jump when increasing speed from 30 upwards.

As anyone had similar problems or advice :?:
Cheers

The best way to test your speedo is to compare it against your sat nav if you have one. Most speedo problems are due to the chip that converts them from kph to mph but yours is obbviouly unconverted.

Also I think it is affected by the size of wheel and tyres, I run 215's all round and when my speedo shows 50mph the sat nav shows around 45 to 48 mph, I actually prefer this as it helps with speed cameras, lol, despite the fact I have a detector on the dash, if I am in a 30 zone and the speedo shows 30 I know I am under.

Thanks Tony I will try my sat nav tomorrow.

David I am running standard tyre/wheels no alloys (yet) and I agree that it helps with speed cameras but you get the feeling you are crawling and everybody wants to get by you

My speedo shows 60 mph when sat nav show 51 mph, I have proper size tyres so speedo is over reading, seems yours may be same.
