If you have a tray and all connections then they can be got easily online or from any caravan / camping supplier

Where abouts in the country are you?

Ideally 110Amp/hr, but check the space under the bonnet - some batteries are too tall

If you have no connections I recomend a split charge relay kit from willinton on ebay it comes complete.

Very easy to install just plug and play. connect to main battery and earth and has a fusebox and connctors to do the internal electrics radio etc. contact him and he should put one on sale for you.

In the weston area there are camping shops that are selling 110 amp leisure batteries for £75 similar price on web

The Willinton kit is indeed easy to install. If you have a tray already, it should be an easy install. I've got an 85ah/hr battery in place, which fits fine. Just check the battery you propose to buy will not fowl the bonnet when the connectors are in place.

Hi,

The Willinton kit is by far the best and easiest to install for the money. Old one that has now ended is ebay item number 220403641231, gives you an idea of what it's about.

Don't buy a cheaper one, they are not as good and don't last, plus they look messy.

Largest battery I think you can get under the bonnet is 110AH but check the dimensions carefully as they come in different sizes.

I saw a good one in Norfolk the other day at a marine place for under £70 and it was a good make.

There are different types too, normal wet lead acid ones don't like being discharged more than 50%, you can get more expensive deep cycle ones that can be discharged more.

I can check the make and size of mine later if that helps, let me know.

Maybe also worth investing in a digital voltmeter as well, gives you an idea of how much is left.

Are you just going to charge from the engine or are you looking at having some kind of hook up ability and charging via that too?

Willinton is a Bongo Fury member who lives in Bristol, not too far from you. You could PM him if you have any doubts but his kit is first class and easy for the layman to install. My original split charging system which my converter installed gave me no end of grief. Since installing one of Willinton's kits myself I have had no problems for the past 18 months.

Willinton designed his tray around the Numax 110Ah leisure battery (he told me yonks back) as being 'the biggest he reckoned could be fitted in the space. Go on t'internet and get dimensions of that battery (note also which way the terminals face) and stick to a battery than doesn't exceed those dimensions and that has the terminals on the same side of hte Numax. Or get a Numax! (its the green one)

PS - I like the sound of the Elecsol graphite battery that Ron Miel got for his Bongo. Have a search on here for his chat about that 8)

I asked the same question a while ago, see http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... =3&t=29605

I now have an Elecsol 100 carbon fibre leisure battery (along with a Willinton kit) and am absolutely delighted with both although admittedly it's still early days. The Elecsol fits in nice and neatly with no struggle (didn't want one that I'd never be able to get out single handed!!). I bought it online from Tayna who do a very quick delivery service.

There is also a section about Leisure Batteries on the FAQs section of this website at http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... =43&t=7499

Alison, can you just confirm you have the willinton battery tray too, please (not just the split relay charger)? I'm weighing up the Elecsol EL100 and the Numax CXV27MF. I like the fact that the Elecsol is not quite as tall as the Numax (but I don't like the price as much :( ) The Elecsol is a tad wider though, and just want to be sure it doesn't foul the upright rods on the retainer.

Yes, I did get the battery tray too. It all seems to be a lovely fit. Being trying to sort out a piccie all day but Photobucket is being extraordinarily slow and erratic (in that order - you wait half an hour before it takes you to completely the wrong place). The photo is there, but I just can't get it in the right place to copy the link. Might try again later (but life's too short :( )

Thanks Alison - no need to go to the trouble of posting a pic. If it fits in yours it should fit in mine too. I've taken the plunge and forked out the dosh. May even be delivered tomorrow!

True enough - I suppose I just wanted to show you how well it fits!!!! If I recall, your Bongo looks just like ours (not that that has anything to do with batteries fitting under the bonnett!!).

I'm sure you'll be delighted with your new purchase.
