lots of jobs needed advice required

Post by the jonesys » Mon May 18, 2009 6:23 pm

i am trying to get my van ready for a two week touring trip to ireland in july :D but its been off the road for about a month waiting for a coolant bleed and wish bone bushes to be replaced which i now have the money to do :D
meantime i have brought a new thermostat [where is it situated?] just to rule out that problem.
i am also having a new cambelt fitted as i am not sure of the exact milage [it says 76 000 but i think thats in kilometers] but hey at least i know its been done then :D
when my mechanic took a look at my bongo to asses the situation i pulled out the dipstick to the gearbox and he said it needed changing as it should be a strong red colour and it was very dirty so i am going to have that done too :D my question is what transmission fluid do i need is it just standard fluid or is it something different?
this is the first bongo my friend has worked on but he has extensive expierience with different cars and 4x4s and would thing nothing of wipping the engine out of anything but i am still aprencive about him bleeding it as it seems one of the hardest jobs to do on the bongo and get it right
my last question is who is the most experienced bongo mechanic in the stoke on trent area just as a back up for the bleeding i would hate it to ruin my worked hard for holiday in ireland
cheers steve [-o<

Ian Taylor at Market Drayton springs to mind. Excellent guy from all accounts (plus when I met him a few years back)

Dexron 3 specification - I used Comma from my local accessory shop.

the thermostat is on the front of the engine near the rocker cover, above scavenger fan, abit tricky and fiddly to get to i believe
