Leaking fuel pump

Hi all
I took my (UK) Bongo to a local garage here in Holland as I'd notice a little puff of smoke occaisionally, and also sometimes got a wiff of diesel (especially when stopping for traffic lights etc.
They diagnosed a leaking fuel pump, and after a few swift phone calls, managed to get them to just replace the seals (cost 35 pounds) instead of sending it away for a refurb at over 1,300 euros.
They haven't received the seal kit yet, but they're already quoting me 8 hours work at 70 euros/hr(!!!!) just to diagnose it and remove it from the van. Would other techies here know how long it should take. Are they taking the piss?
Any opinions appreciated.
Simon
