just driven my bongo for the first time in 6 months as was ioff the road for winter. I drove it down to the MOT station and it drove great but was a knocking, this was picked up as an advisory note (Bongo passed no problem) and the guy said its probably either a worn top bush or the spring

now there was no knocking when i last drove it and put it to bed for the winter so i am guessing its the top bush as i believe its rubber and so probably corroded ? or bearing in mind its been off the road could something need lubricating ?? or could it be something else ?

if it is the top bush is this something i can do ? is it a big job / expense ??

any advice appreciated

Likely suspects are the front droplinks, or the ball joint bush.

are ball joint bushes or droplinks something that an amateur can do ? if not does anyone know roughly how much parts/labour is ?

Droplinks (and anti roll bar bushes, which can also cause clonking) are provided you have six sided socket spanner and extension arm, in order to get a good grip on the nuts, and provided the are not badly seized on (else they have to be ground off with an angle grinder I gather). If you have the tools then it's worth a try before handing it to a garage.

Don't know about ball joint bushes (or what they are) but they sound trickier to me!

it was the droplinks - all sorted now though i did take it to a garage to have it done - i dont trust myself enough with steering etc - 50 quid job done so i'm happy - had a test drive to derbyshire on last weekend - all is well
