Ours is (was) a cold climate N Japan motor, first reg April 2001, although it was certainly living in southern Japan before its Japanese MOT equivalent (tenken-seibi) in April 2007, the year before it was exported - so how long it spent in the north I'm not sure. Anyway, no sign of rust when I first saw it, and its now been Waxoyled for protection here. If yours looks OK, and it's not yet been Waxoyled, why not get it checked over and reported on, then done? I'm afraid that the surface rust has probably eaten through from inside the arch. If you can't live with it, the only answer is to have the old arches cut out and decent ones welded in - not cheapkelvfarrell wrote:Interesting comments.
Mine has some surface rust on the rear wheel arches which has been "treated" ( badly).
I was expecting the underside to reveal some structural rust issues when put up on a ramp, but my MOT tester gave a positive report.
Some of the underside has been coated with a kind of spray on undereal that looks as though it has a bituminous base, so I am not sure if waxoyl would actually make the future prospects look better or worse.
Has anybody here waxolyed over undereal ?
What has happened since ?
