How do I fit wind deflectors?

Post by BongoDon » Sat Apr 11, 2009 9:04 pm

I bought a Bongo last summer. Very pleased with her, but she came with only the passenger side deflector fitted.
On the driver's side, at anything above about 50mph there is a lot of turbulence, suggesting a slightly flexing door, or knackered seals.

I've bought some second hand deflectors (had to get a pair, so have a spare passenger one, if someone wants it), but now I've no idea how to fit one. Looks like there is a double-sided kind of foam that is used, plus two or three clips. What really puzzles me, is where do I get the foam??

Has anyone on here fitted a deflector, and if so, how did you do it??

Any advice would be really appreciated, because we are talking about driving down to the west coast of France this summer and the turbulence would be unbearable for the 4-6 hour drive!
P.S. Turbulence reminds me of my old Stadium Achilles helmet in my younger days of bike riding!

Edited to add: not sure if this should be on technical or chat!

My drivers door does the same in windy conditions, and the wind is in a certain direction. I can understand why, if the wind deflector is acting like a wing and trying to lift off, pulling the door away from the body..... but why just the drivers door then? :?

Aye, the foam used by mazda will be the equivalent kind of double sided tape you can get at any car accessory shop... Ask for a roll of "body moulding tape".
