removing rear spoiler

Hi

I am thinking about adding a fiamma cycle rack to my bongo, but I have been told that for this to fit the rear spoiler needs to be removed.
Is this a big job?
Also the high level brake light is inside the spoiler obviously if the spoiler is removed are there any legal implications?
Do cars have to have one now?

I fitted one and had to cut out the spoiler which wasnt difficult to do, this left the brake light in place and once fitted it also looks good.

so you actually cut the spoiler, do you have any pics would be most useful

So you took the spoiler off an made a couple of slots I am guessing so that the feet of the bike rack had some where to go

majorbloodnock has done the whole job.

If you find a post by him, click on his signature link it'll take you to his flickr accounts. There's some close up shots which should really help.

Dead easy to get it off I think, I've had to unbolt one end to fit a ladder for someone, 2 bolts from inside the tailgate at either end, not sure about the wiring, I'd assume it unplugs, I'm sure someone'll be along to answer that one.

I seem to recall there was a connector for the brake light & also that it could easily drop inside the tailgate or the the spoiler (can't remember which, but recall making a mental note in case I ever removed it again).

took mine off on on tuther day...............

2 star type screws (not pozidrive) at either side (you have to open the tailgate to see them  ). unscrew them.
, then pull the tailgate down, then just grab the passenger side end and gently pull away from the tailgate, its got like a plastic locking plug that goes into the tailgate, just pushes in and out, then do the drivers side, you will see the wiring for the tailgate going into the spoiler, just unplug the connector block

Yeah, Unscrewed the spoiler without any problems, unclipped the Light lead and then cut out the slots using a Dremel power tool quite easy, the knack is to get the dimensions spot on. I have photos showing the measurements etc. How do I send them to you?

Pretty sure, from memory, they're Torx screws, drivers for these readily available.
