Indicator stuck on - help

Post by Morag » Fri Mar 13, 2009 6:42 pm

I popped my offside indicator on today, cos I was turning, and it's now stuck on. Anyone any suggestions on what might be wrong. The headlight part of the stalk still works, including headlight flas so it's just indicators. I really don't know where to start. Any help or advice would be great.

Something could have fallen down the steering cowl and shorted the switch contacts - paperclip/hairgrip/lipstick case/hairdryer/anything else you gals use while driving 8)

Okay, keep me right here, I'm thinking because it's still flashing fuses must be okay so it shouldn't be anything electrical. Which would be switch and switch contacts as suggested by Dandy. Girly bit now, where are they, what do they look like and what should I do when I find them

Stevie, found the relay, disconnected it, no flashy flashy, reconnected it and it's still the same, stuck on. Hazards working fine. So relay is okay I think. I'm off to look for contacts now. Thanks for your help so far guys.

Okay, had a look at the mechanism. There's a little catch shown on here

http://www.lushprojects.com/bongopartsm ... 1of02.html

I'll try and describe where it is in the photo. If you look at the two square holes where the stalk obviously fits, immediately to their rear you'll see two black lines on the drawing. This is a slidy up and down catch and when I slide it up by hand, indicator changes to nearside, slide it down, changes to offside, put it dead centre, indicators go off. When I move the stalk, this lever doesn't move, so question is, should this move up and down when the indicator stalk is moved? If it should, then I reckon something in the mechanism has gone.

Hope this makes sense.

It, unfortunately sounds like a broken switch (probably expensive) - has Harry still got the one on his scrapped van?

Will do that next, thanks Stevie

Broken switch? Hmm, I think it's maybe the same as a similiar year Mazda 626, breakers tomorrow perhaps.

It's in a fact sheet in the member's area - only affects models built between 19/12/2000 - 08/01/2004.
