WLT engine spotted in India

Post by Welly » Sat Mar 07, 2009 6:35 pm

Having just moved out to India last week for 2 years was amazed to find a bongo 2.5T engine in the Ford Endeavour hire car we have. I had a suspicions it had one and today I got the driver to lift the bonnet and had a peek, and there it was !. this engine has only been dropped for a common rail power plant on last year’s model so it has proved reliable in very hostile driving conditions and it does have the same poewer output as the bongo. I guess this is the source for non Japanese heads on the market. and no I did not ask any questions about the cooling and please don't ask me to. All I will say is it's bloody hot out here 36-40C and the gauge did not move. Will get some pictures of it on Monday if we get it again. It also has some very nice metal chrome internal door pulls. the outer plastic is black and the pulls are chrome and look identical to the bongo ones. Will find out a price for a pair. I still have the Bongo as we couldn’t bear to sell it, it’s mothballed up in a barn for returns to the country. Have shipped the grill over to be plated and will strip over bits of for the same treatment on trips home. I don’t think I will posting in the “was it you forum” unless we see one when we go to Singapore.

I think your right about all the cheap heads from India must be a common problem over there too especially as its hotter, interesting to know if the 3 liter 16 valve TDCi diesel engine which are in the newer Ford Endeavours would fit into a bongo =P~

Hi
Ditto to what Mike says....I'd love to live over there...but funnily enough, my number one spot after India would be Cuba or Panama.....It gets hot over here in summer...upper 40's , but the winters are DIRE...Bongo copes with both on a non-winterised motor, I may add (except when the winter diesel freezes)
Oooo, a replacement V6 motor....mmmm...I was thinking about putting a large V8 in my Type 2....but I think that may just blow the Bongo transmission to bits.....but it would make a nice bang!
Cheers
Helen
In the beginning there was nothing , then God said "Let there be Light".....There was still nothing , but ,by crikey, you could see it better.
