Hey there, I have had an ongoing problem for the last 2 years which all the local garages have been unable to solve (at great expense).
On cold/damp mornings (in Cornwall) my Bongo will start and then will idle (juddering) around normal revs. However when I pull away in D the revs build up incredibly slowly and as I lift off the excellerator the revs will fall away and the engine stalls. This process will repeat itself 2-3 times which is not only frustrating but also dangerous as I am stalling whilst pulling out infont of traffic when joining busy roads and stalling when driving through town blocking the road.
Often the poor excelleration is combined with grey smoke coming from the exhaust.
If I start the engine and leave the Bongo to idle for 5 mins the engine temperature dial rises to normal levels and the problem does not show it ugly head. I just wish I could start the engine and pull away without having to wait 5 mins every morning.
Any advice or experience of this problem would be really appreciated.
Thanks

Re: My Bongo keeps stalling on cold mornings
I've had a similar, intermittent problem through the winter. In my case the engine will always start ok but, if left to idle it will sometimes start juddering & smoking white. I'm certain that it's NOT the glowplugs since a couple of times it's died after driving long enough for the plugs to have fully warmed & cut out. It always re-starts & runs ok. I thought I'd cured it by replacing the fuel filter & cleaning the banjo filter, but it's done it a couple of times since then. I now suspect that it may be related to a sticking EGR valve (guessing really), so the next step is to get a couple of Allans blanking plates.

Intresting Rhod,
Sounds very similar to my problem. Yes mine does judder when iddling. I have had all the glow plugs replaced and gearbox fluid checked. Not sure what you mean by Allans blanking plates? Cheers

The air filter was replaved at the start of the winter, so probably not the cause in my case. Although, come to think of it, I did hit some unexpected flood water a bit hard one dark night coming over Glen Ogle...... It was before the problem recurred this winter, so just possible that the air filter got wet & dirty. Worth try I suppose.
