'Emergency' string & allen key

Post by Ben1400 » Mon Feb 16, 2009 3:43 pm

When I bought my Bongo it still had a 'road flare' in the little storage 'tube' in the passengers footwell. I got rid of that back to the dealer but something that has me intrigued is a sealed plastic bag with ablot 10 metres or so of white nylon cord and a small allen key, about 4 mm in size. There is also a thin slip of paper with a load of Japanese writing on it. Recently I was looking at the web site that has a break down of the Bongo components along with exploded diagrams and lo & behold along with the road flare was a picture of the plastic bag showing the string & allen key.

now I know I am going to really regret asking this as I have seen some very amusing replies on this web site but here goes:

What is the cord and allen key for.

Before you give an answer may I point out that my mate suggested it was an emergency window blind operating kit in case the batteries became flat, I don't think that is what it is for personally but I am an open sort of person and would love to hear several explainations so long as we get to the correct one eventually

Thanks, Barry

Its for when the AFT roof won't come down! You use the allan key to unbolt the motors at the rear of the AFT, and then thread the cord over the top and pull it down manually finally the cord is tied threw the two side windows to prevent it blowing backup when moving (keep the speed down :-) The Owners manual covers all the details as I recall.

Simple....if ever your roof sticks open....that is the kit that will get it down and tie it down to get you home....the allen keys undo the roof moters and the string ties it down....

Welcome to the madhouse  - don't forget to put your location in your profile (it helps us to help you).
What you have found is the emergency AFT lowering kit. You use the allen key to undo the motors and the string to pull the roof down.

Haha only 45 seconds .... I'm rebuilding a neighbours PC at the moment and it feels like 45 hours wasted, re-built it on Saturday and he had busted it again by this morning still at least I had forced a backup so its just waiting for that to restore ...... hence the time on my hands ....

If you do have roof problems, don't rush to use the kit. Check all the basics first, handrake on, handbrake switch working etc, a healthy nudge may even get it going, before resorting to dismantling.

You could use the cord as a tow rope if you were only slightly stuck in some mud, and Allan could use the key to get into his house, he's probably locked out as you have it.
Take a torch, toilet roll, and tea bags.
