Bongo not well

Hi all,
As the heading says my bongo is not well, the problem i am having is when driving on a straight bongo is going okay but when driving up a hill or overtaking bongo loses power and black smoke starts pouring out and if i put the foot down it gets a lot worse so i have to take my foot of the gas and press the hold button. Been in garage a few times now. First i was told it was the Turbo which i replaced no difference, then the injectors again no difference, then they checked the fuel pump but htat was fine. So today it went in for a compression test and mechanic says compression was fine so he is a bit stumped on what to do now. Has anyone had any similar problems or ideas what the problem could be.

I suppose you have checked the obvious, like a blocked air filter? Black smoke indicates excess fuel, or not enough air.

I have replaced all filters and checked the banjo filter.

have you checked the tiny little fuel filter under the banjo connection on top of the fuel pump, mine had me stumped for ages when mine did the same thing. five minute job to clean it out!

i remember someone saying they had a similar problem and it turned out to be a plastic bag sucked into the air scoop.(bottom of the engine) dunno if that is it, but worth a checking.

If memory serves me correctly (my default excuse) I think that just led to a loss of power dave, without the smoke... But i stand to be corrected as ever!

I'm thinking along the lines of the exhaust shutter being jammed in the exhaust, (if its a twin batteyr bongo), or perhaps an EGR valve jammed open/shut...(whichever is applicable)

Have checked all hoses and yes it is twin battery but i have no exhaust shut valve and the switch is always off. Have also had the intercooler out and given that a good clean but still the same.

EGR then? Blanking it may cure the problem.

Have you had the exhaust shutter/flap removed oggy?

Hmm.... Are all the pipes to the turbo tight/connected? Dandy is on now... he'll know.

Can't remember (but Dandywarhol will) but what symptoms does a dodgy Throttle Position Sensor produce? Also, I assume the little pipe that connects to the turbocharger is connected as it should be?

Also, any chance of vacuum in the fuel line from the tank (poor breathing). Try running with filler cap off. Also, feeding fuel from a jug instead of from the tank and see if problem clears (though heaven knows how you'd test this on the move!)
