mot prep.front fog light?glass bits in headlamp?an issue?

Post by hogggman » Sat Jan 17, 2009 3:39 pm

hi,
just been outside going over the bongo in readyness for the mot on wednesday.all looks well so far,but i`m paranoid!i`ve noticed some glass particles within the nearside headlamp.it`s not part of the lens, and doesn`t look like the reflector has any bits missing.i`m pretty sure that it was like this for the last mot,but i didn`t take it,and it`s going somewhere different anyway.will it be an issue?
also, been checking the lights and found a switch for what i thought would be the front foglight.does it have one,and if so,why can`t i see a difference when i switch it?
thanks
jamie

Have you got front foglights fitted? Is the switch connected to anything? is it for the rear fogs?

Is the headlight working ok on full & dipped?
Sounds like a bulb has broken at some point, take the bulb out carefully without touching the glass & hoover out the glass if it bothers you, or pick the bits up with some gaffer tape srticky side out on a bit of coathanger wire or something.

aha.kirsty,i reckon you`re gonna rib me for this.........................nope,don`t have front fog lights fitted, just two holes in the bumper where they would be.just realised as i sat here reading this   i guess it`s not mandatory to have them?
one other thing, just noticed my space saver spare is 15 inches, yet my alloys are 16 inches.is that a definite fail?is it still ok to take vehicle without a spare at all?if so,i`ll take it off.
thanks

i just had an mot ,and had the spare wheel on after i had a puncture.(not a space saver,15inch) my other wheels are 17 inch, he noticed it straight away, but when i said i have the other tyre in the back ,he opened it ,checked it over and said that's OK, the wheels have to be the same size on the same axle of the vehicle.
he didnt seem to mind that the spare was a different size.
Lost without my Bongo.

You muppet   bless you, you do make me laugh sometimes.
I doubt they'll check the size of the spare - bear in mind the old space saver is a piece of crap wheelbarrow tyre & people pass mot's with that. As long as it's a roadworthy tyre.
For your own info, take it off & stand it next to the tyres fitted, hopefully it'll be about the same rolling diameter, it depends on the tyre size rather than the wheel size. If it's seriously different, I'd take it down to your local tyre guys & get them to fit a tyre of the right profile so it's the same rolling diameter as the ones fitted, if they can't work it out, they shouldn't be in the job, go elsewhere

No expert on winter tyres, but I'm pretty sure it's come up before if you do a search.
