Alloy Wheels on Ford Freda
We have just bought a 1996 Ford Freda 2.5 auto diesel which has alloy wheels fitted. We are sure they have been fitted in Japan but there is no key to enable us to get at the wheel nuts to take off the wheel. This key will releae the trim cover. It was a private sale and the chap thought it was with the spare wheel but it is not. We are worried that we cannot take off the wheel. They seem to have on the trim of the wheel the initials SLB in fancy scroll. Has anyone any idea what they are? We would be grateful for any advice. This is our first Bongo!

The cover on mine is simply held on with a small Allen Key

Welcome to the Forum Thomas
As a long shot have you checked if the key is in the pouch inside the step where the sliding door is,all the jack and chocks and stuff should be in there as well as the bits to get the spare wheel down from underneath,I hope I have not uncovered another problem for you if these items arent there too but you do need em!!
Its a long shot for the key to be there but I keep an allen key in the pouch as my alloys have an allen key holding the centre cover on.Its highly likely that the wheels are an aftermarket Japan item its gonna be a job getting a key if you cant find one!!
Good Luck and whatever the outcome of this ENJOY the Bongo!!

Re: Alloy Wheels on Ford Freda
Thanks for the very quick replies and I will try and load a photo of the wheel! I have tried to post 2 messages and each time I have tried I have lost my connection. There was nothing in the space for the jack and tools just a Halford 2 ton jack. On contacting him again he thought the key was maybe with the spare wheel but it is not. We have bought a Mazda/Ford car jack with tools from Ebay. We are having the Bongo serviced on Friday as it has not been hardly run for the past 12 months. In fact the seller got us a new MOT which was due to run out this week but we thought it best to get it serviced and are using one who posted on Hot Tips. Hopefully it will be good. We are so looking forward to getting out and about in our Bongo - our son has convinced us to try as he has one too.
Thanks again for your help.

Re: Alloy Wheels on Ford Freda
Seeing your location, any wheel type problems should be easily sorted with Wheelquick, I'm sure some of the guys will be along shortly

Definitely consider a trip to somewhere like Wheelquick for a full checkover - they will be able to check whether you have everything you should have and advise if anything needs doing.missfixit70 wrote:Seeing your location, any wheel type problems should be easily sorted with Wheelquick, I'm sure some of the guys will be along shortly

Still trying to upload a picture - have watched the video on YouTube - doh -
We have already booked the Bongo in at a garage in Stockport for Friday now as it is so much nearer than Wigan and we are pretty committed here at the moment. Hope this guy is OK

I am giving up with this image now

Re: Alloy Wheels on Ford Freda
Oh it seems to have worked now - is it big enough to view?
Re: Alloy Wheels on Ford Freda
They look much the same as the centre caps on my alloys and the retaining screw on mine simply unscrews using a small (approx 3 or 4mm) Allen Key.thomas884 wrote:Oh it seems to have worked now - is it big enough to view?

sorry it is me again!

Re: Alloy Wheels on Ford Freda
Thanks everyone - hubby will try tomorrow!
Re: Alloy Wheels on Ford Freda
Hmmm.... from what I can see it doesn't look like an Allen Key will fit that.
Re: Alloy Wheels on Ford Freda
Unfortunately the allen key will not fit because there is a pin in the centre of the recess. will see what the garage say tomorrow. If necessary a trip to Wheelquick will have to be made fairly soon.
Thanks again for all yoiur help and advice.
