Saturday Feb 28/Sunday March 1st. Any interest?
Wookey Hole Caves is now run by Gerry Cottle, of circus fame, so there is a fairground
theme. There are superb play areas for children, with enclosed play frames, a hall of
mirrors, crazy mirrors, paper making demo, a wonderful kiddies clown theatre, vintage slot
machines, fairground museum, Teddy Bear museum and shop, not all of which are free, but in
practice you seem to be able to wander around without hinder. We could at least gather in
the huge restaurant if wet.
There's a huge car park, and a good pub nearby, plus it is a very pretty village. The web site says curiously that camper vans are welcome.
The caves themselves are quite expensive to visit (£8 to £12 a head, with concessions for students and
a group discount for 12 people or over). Wookey Hole is just 2 miles from the Cathedral City of
Wells which is well worth a visit; Glastonbury, Shepton Mallet and Cheddar Gorge are close by (6 miles or so).
We took our granddaughter to the park just before Christmas, she had a great time, and it
struck me that it would make a great day meet venue.
Discuss. (or not!!
The plan seems to be

Personally speaking at this time of year I would want a hook up and warm shower at the end of the day so I have checked with Haybridge site and they are open for business that weekend and are actually only 15 mins walk from the Caves or Wells, which for the evening pub grub / cider fest sounds scrummy to me![]()
Now all I need to do is confirm this with the boss (kerry) tonight and I'm away with the mixer.
N.B - Wookey Caves WILL NOT entertain our furry friends (Scully will be gutted) She will have a fit when I pull out of our drive without her.
crazy uncle gray g wrote:OK, in case anyone else is interested, Kerry and I have now booked our pitch for the Saturday night at this site

Our idea been, if the weather is dryto set up camp at the site and then wander into Wells approx 15/20 walk to check out the place and the Saturday market, and who knows possibly an ale house or two if we get thirsty

Saturday night > go with the flow (carry out or pub meal) whatever !
Obviously on the Sunday morning we will knock up the obligatory Full English and a cup of tea, and then drive 5 mins up the road to join all the bongo peeps at Wookey Caves for 11.00 am.![]()
Anyone else wishing to join us feel free, just remember to pre book your pitch and caves tickets to get them at the best price
People booked on the Saturday night so far to my knowledgeBin Bongoed wrote:Have just spoken to the Wookey Hole people, and there will be a performance in the circus theatre on March 1st. This performance is by kiddies up to about 14 years, doing
* juggling
* stilts
* wire walking
* rope and silks
* bungee skills
* trapeze skills
and other circus tricks. I have not seen it myself but know it is very popular with the audience, both for children and adults. I think it's well worth going.
Do not know the performance timings but we can check that out on the day.
