Electric windows.

Post by mikelamb » Mon Jan 05, 2009 11:56 pm

Hi Gang,
After fixing my heater fan, I am feeling lucky and have decided to start my next repair! The passenger window does'nt always work. I think its the switch on the drivers side that locks the window to prevent it from opening. Have these got a history of being probblematic and is there any info on fixing them,
Cheers,
Mike.

Should be a shedload on the forum if you do a search, common problem, check the wiring loom between door & body, but it could just be the drivers side isolating switch needs cleaning or the window itself needs lubing.
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

They can indeed be problematic. I was lucky and managed to strip mine down, clean up the slider contacts, and get it back to working condition. Someone was advertising new ones on ebay not long ago for around £90, which was about £25 cheaper than they had previously been available. As Kirsty says, try and eliminate fractured wiring in the area where the loom exits the door pillar before focusing on the switch as the problem. Have a search for previous examples of this problem and how peeps fixed them. Good luck. 8)
