Inverter cable routing and installation advice

Post by alphabetter » Sat Jan 03, 2009 4:50 pm

Folks,

I've got an inverter that I want to fit ready for the summer. I was thinking on doing it like DandyW - above the metal bar near the glove box like this:

A couple of questions though:
1) What's the best way to route the cables through to the engine bay? There appears to be a grommet behind the coolant tank, but on a quick look I couldn't see where it comes through on the inside. Can you use this?

2) Any advice on removing the glove box without breaking anything? I am always nervous of applying brute-force to trim parts (particularly as the plastic is starting to get a bit old and brittle)

You will find instructions for removing the glove box within these instructions for fitting a BMW clock.

I've used that grommet for several bits of wiring through, it's not quite where you'd imagine it to be form the othe side if you know what I mean, I think it's behind a removable semi cut out piece on the interiorflexblie trim stuff. I poked a screwdriver through to see where it was.
The glove box comes out easily by pushing the bottom bit - where it is hinged - sideways away from the interior of the hole it's in - with the glove box open, the corner with the plastic stub pivot bit can then be pulled down & across to release the other side.
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.
