rear washers problem

Hi, our rear window washers have stopped working. When the washer button is pressed the washer motor pumps the fluid but it leaks out somewhere above the exhaust pipe. I presume the pipe is broken somewhere. Does anybody know if this is a common fault, and where the break is likely to be ?
Thanks for your help

Was the rear jet frozen?

I think the pipe feeds across the roof of the Bongo, so the leak isn't coming from underneath. Mine came adrift on the top of the tailgate. I guess a leak from where mine broke could run down through the panels to drip underneath ?

don't forget the rear pump is higher in the container than the front pump so the rear will allways stop working first.

Well it might be leaking from the high rear pump, onto the manifold. We need to look at all possibilities. :D

Yeah, but, no, but, the exhaust manifold is a few feet behind the washer bottle & pump

Hello again. perhaps i wasnt explicit enough about the location of the leak. The washer fluid is leaking from somewhere around the tailgate and dripping onto the rear exhaust silencer and tail pipe.

I think Mick and Trevor are on the right lines. Sounds like the pipe has come off the nozzle connection, or summat like that

I should be less cryptic. If the rear jet freezes, and you try and wash the rear screen, the pressure from the washer pump can push the washer fluid pipe off a dodgy joint, which could be in the rear door.

I have the same problem at the moment. If the washer bottle is low will the rear jet stop working first?

Yep, as Aitch said earlier in the thread, it has a higher take off from the washer bottle, so will stop working before the front washers.

problem solved. It turned out to be a broken pipe connector on the top of the tailgate. thanks to everyone who gave a sensible, helpful answer.

Hurrah and well done =D>

PS - any indication that the cold weather (e.g. fluid freezing in the pipe) might have triggered it? Or maybe its time was simply up!
