Mileometer

Post by moonshine » Sun Dec 14, 2008 11:44 am

Just aquired a GA5R speedo, and I would like to reset the mileage to something resembling what I have at present as this one is showing over 60,000 miles more than mine. I know I am always banging on about mileage being unimportant in older vehicles, but I would like to keep the MOT certificates something like consistant.

I don't think it would be a good idea to publish such information on an open forum, but if anyone could PM me as to how to reset the mileage, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

The info is already on this forum for any one to see

from the rear of the unit
small screwdriver between the dials and twist to part them then turn to accurate reading

Thanks Rob. I did try that, but probably didn't apply enough force with the screwdriver to be able to turn the dials. Didn't want to put too much effort into it and break something. May give it another go. I have done the old mechanical ones before, but I was able to remove the mileometer completely and simply reset it to what I wanted, then refit it.

Like your thinking, They'd know how to do it but they would probably want to charge me more than I paid for the speedo. I got lucky and got one for under a fiver, otherwise I probably wouldn't have bothered as it was only a minor annoyance having to restart occasionally when the chip played up and the speedo didn't work.

Done it! :) Wasn't that difficult, and I didn't break it either.

Final chapter in the story is that the speedo is now fitted to my Bongo, and is working fine.

Thanks to those that helped.
