Re: steaming exhaust
Hmmm . . . Steam?
Thick white stuff?
Sounds fairly terminal if thats the case. White smoke indicates head/head gasket trouble.

You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

Re: steaming exhaust
Sure it's not just the cold weather ??? If it's not that and you have steam coming out then it must be via the head gasket. Did you have the head pressure tested and the top of the engine block honed ??

Re: steaming exhaust
Can you get it to Allans (advert on this site) at Plymouth. Take it down the road and get the RAC/AA to recover it to his garage. Give him a bell first.

Re: steaming exhaust
If the head gasket had gone, perhaps the exhaust is still full of water, it's not so easy for it to evaporate of in this weather.
Give the exhaust a good shake and see if you can hear any sloshing from the rear silencer.

I was just going to say that.If the head gasket had gone, perhaps the exhaust is still full of water, it's not so easy for it to evaporate of in this weather. Give the exhaust a good shake and see if you can hear any sloshing from the rear silencer.

Change the thermostat then make sure it's bled properly. Check for excess pressure (solid hoses when engine started) or excessive air bubbles when bleeding - if it doesn't bleed obviously there are problems.
If it does bleed, it sometimes can take about 100 miles to clear the excess condensation, especially in this weather.
If there are problems then it's likely to be a cracked head (you can get it pressure tested) as it's rare for just the gasket to go.
Don't forget to find out why it overheated - for instance check the rad.
I'm growing them (onions not bongos) - they're looking pretty good even for this time of year.I know more about onions than Bongos.

Allans Garage retired. Try PGS (Plymouth Garage Services) or Mayflower Auto Services Plymouth
