cd wiring
hi all, having grown tired of driving round in the bongo with no music i decided to install a cd player.Having inspected the wiring loom in the bongo i had 2 white blocks,1 with 4 pin connections & the other with 8 pin connections.Assuming the 8 pin block was for the speakers & the 4 pin block was for power i steamed right in & cut them off to enable me to connect my own player, things arent as i thought & steaming in was an outrageous idea.Poop. Any help with wire i.d would be greatly appreciated

Re: cd wiring
You should have bought one of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AUTOLEADS-MAZDA-I ... 240%3A1318 - it's a lot easier than trying to rewire the whole system

Re: cd wiring
Did you keep the connectors wes? You could re-solder and sleeve them back on and use the autoleads adaptor (as above), It makes it so much easier if you decide to replace the head unit again in the future.

Re: cd wiring
i did keep connectors but cut the wires as close as poss to give me maximum wire length for new crimp connections.Going in again armed with my multimeterbigdaddycain wrote:Did you keep the connectors wes? .Now when i fade to front speakers on unit i get front left in the bongo & fade to rear on unit i get front right in the bongo & nothing at all from rears either time

Re: cd wiring
I know you have speaker grilles in the rear wes, but are there actually any speakers behind them?
This could account for the strange fader behaviour, many bongo's have none, or stragely, just one speaker in the rear.
Mine did have the full compliment of 4 factory speakers, (long since gone now), but many bongo's have just the front speakers fitted.

Stranger still that your freda has all the speakers, yet the bongo only had one in the rear... it's usually the other way round!
I suspect the bongo spec list in japan is thicker than a hong kong telephone directory!

Re: cd wiring
the wiring loom must be the same whether youve got rear speakers or not as i seem to have the full complement of wires behind the dash

Re: cd wiring
Sorry wes, but checking for rear speakers would mean removing the rear panels, (short of re-instating your original head unit, and reverting the wiring exactly back to original)
Your best bet would be to get a torch, (whilst its still dark) and shining it through the speaker grille, to see if you can spot the tell tale dome of the centre of the speaker.

Yes i think the loom would be the same, regardless of whether you have 4 speakers or not.wes 68 wrote:the wiring loom must be the same whether youve got rear speakers or not as i seem to have the full complement of wires behind the dash

Re: cd wiring
I had no rear speakers in the back of mine..
Found out with a torch, though the loom was there for the rear speakers (its a white block connector with two wires if i remember) just where the back of the speaker should go.
When i fitted speakers i managed to wangle it so i could use the original grill...

Cheaper by comparison to a race horse...
