Ref Diesel fuelling probs - previously posted/now locked

Post by lochan2 » Sun Oct 26, 2008 4:53 pm

I previously reported a diesel fuelling problem with my bongo, in that with half a tank or less fuel and with at least an hours driving bongo would start to jerk/pull back (misfire) lose revs and generally not be very well until the tank was topped up to over the half tank, after which she would run ok but had lost her zip.
several forum readers responded and among the suggestions/ideas was that the fitted fuel cap was faulty/blocked.
Yup...........it was most definitely the fuel cap that caused all the misery, replaced it with an emergency fuel cap and Whoo-Hooo! we're off and going over 80mph with ease again, I luv me Bongo  again!
cheers to all for their suggestions/ideas. Lochan

Glad it was a simple fix =D> - I've put a link across from the original thread to this one.

Seems you've only temporarly sorted it lochan - the temp cap is guising another fault - the cap itself doesn't/shouldn't vent to atmosphere - sounds like theres a blocked breather pipe in the filler neck :?

That's interesting Alan :? I haven't checked for a breather pipe, but my cap has a one-way valve in it which lets air in.

Hmmmmm.........got me thinking now John - need to check my cap and see if I'm talking sh1te as usual - would it be possible for the one way valve to fail shut?

 =D>

Do you think 42-A90 is a vent valve as well then? Wonder why there's also one on the cap :-k

http://www.lushprojects.com/bongopartsm ... mgno=.html - try this one.
42-A90 - "fuel valve vapour" according to the index thing.
If you look at the "breather pipe" in the neck of the filler it just appears to return to the tank.

The pipe from the filler pipe to the tank(42-210 etc) is probably just to let air escape quickly when filling the tank with fuel. 42A90 appears to be the breather valve, with the fumes going in to 42-590A (which is described as a bracket :? :? )
I would guess, but am no means certain, that the tank unit lets air out to relieve pressure build up on hot days etc and the filler cap lets air in as fuel is used.

Dont forget that if you want a locked post opened you just need to fire off a request to one of the mods on the appropriate section. We lock things that haven't been used for a while to keep things tidy but are more than happy to open up anything that you want revived so dont be shy #-o .

I seem to remember that in the States, that the filler from the gas station pump has some sort of device to seal it to the vehicle tank when you fill up. There would need to be a breather to allow the air out during filling. I don't know what Japanese filling stations pumps are like though.
