Auto Gearbox Fault

Hello People
Can anyone help
Normally i drive faily conservatively but today i tried to boot it up a hill kind of racing another van but when my pedal hit the floor
the kickdown operated, the box changed down, engine screemed and ahhhhhhhhh that was it. Screem Screem Screem no increase of speed mmmmmm. So let go of pedal a bit it changed down and went back to normal type accelaration. Told my Mrs and she then said its been doing that for a while now. I give it a go a few times with the same result each time, Also i noticed a smell like a burning clutch, even tho its auto.
I checked the oil its good and clean
Any ideas would be gratfully recieved

Have you checked the level of the oil in the gearbox in the recommended way? Go for a drive get the box up to operating temp, park up , handbrake on, footbrake on, range up through all the gear positions & check the level while in drive.
Do you know when the oil was last changed?, if it has been changed recently was the sump dropped & the filter cleaned?
Check all the electrical connections around the gearbox.

Sounds very similar to the problem I've got, read my post about 3 down from yours, the guys here gave me some good pointers.

I'd get the same if I booted it, but I notice that inbetween gear changes it's like your in a manual slipping the clutch, then it engages the next gear and all is well.

I'd take it easy until it's sorted btw, that burning smell probably isn't a good thing long term.

I'll keep you posted as to what mine is diagnosed as, I'm really hoping that it's some electrical problem poss the throttle position sensor as it happend suddenly and there was no indication of any probs beforehand.

Must admit I was gutted when it first happened, and it's a real pain not being able to use the car. Oh well that;s life and I'm sure it can be fixed.

Thanx for advise to all.
Will update my profile for location.
Had a new problem today which might be related. Around June time i tried using bio-fuel and came a croper to it whilst returning home from exeter airport, the van became totally under powered to the point of dropping from 70mph down to crawling. I worked out that it was fuel related, Called AA man he said it definitely was the fuel. Towed me home.
Next day i drained tank and new filter and clean fuel. All ran sweet.
But the fuel that i drained i kept and have been slowing using it so it was not a waste. But my van struggled with power today, last gallon was just used and i think the same problem has come back to haunt me. So new filter to fit and never to use dirty fuel again. Hoping this may sort Auto box problem. My theory is that my filter has slowly been blocking gradually reducing engines power ability including the day it just screemed and not increased in road speed to the point of today being a slug.
Will keep you posted.

.............................and as you need more throttle to overcome the lack of power then the autobox will take longer to change up and hold onto the gears longer...................

ALL SORTED Thankfully, it goes like the day i bought it.
Removed fuel filter and it was clogged with fatty deposits from the biofuel i was using, so never again
for me will i use that junk.
I had already bought one filter this year i really i needed another, but i just cleaned it out.
So didn't really save much money LOL.
Also cleaned out the gause.
