Well at last got someone to replace broken manifold stud. While he was at it he changed the manifold gasket. It was his first time and looked exhausted when I picked it up. All running well. No more annoying screaming in first gear. Charged me £148 plus vat. What do you think? :D :D

Did you change the metal gasket as well. He said he had to take off alternator, turbo, loads of pipes etc. Maybe I was fiddled. Oh well live and learn.

Managed to fix mine without replacing the gasket. As Dandy says about an hour. If he did all you say then I would say that was fair. 4 hours @ £35......probably won't take that long now he knows how to go about it in future.

I didn't replace the metal gasket - because it is metal, not fibre and most likely to withstand the blowing - maybe I was lucky :)

Thanks for info. Feel a bit better about it now knowing someone else paid similar. :)

I think that price is fine (good in fact). Not ruinous money and it sounds like one of those jobs that may go well but can go badly. And if the Bongo and the job was strange to them well, at least they got it done and its behind you now =D>
