Nightmare please help new engine

Post by gregandgoh » Tue Aug 19, 2008 11:43 am

Hi I have started a new thread on this as i now need a new engine. My poor bongo overheated and ran dry. I got it recovered to Protech in Bristol who say i need a new engine. They have quoted me £2200 for one that they order from a supplier (£1200+VAT) and then needs 14 hours labour + change fulids/new cam belt etc. This is such a lot of money i am scared and even more scared that on top of this it may have been something like the radiator that caused it.

Has anyone got any advice or can recommend where to get a new engine fitted (the car is in Bristol and i live in manchester)

many thanks

Several people have reported engine damage due to cracked radiators, holes in pipes etc but although it is often regarded as the most significant problem to affect Bongos, I do not think that it is particularly common. When you get the replacement engine, consider investing in a low coolant alarm from Haydn (approx £65 to buy & 30 mins to fit) to minimise the risk of it happening again.

Sorry I can't advise on what engine source to use.
