Charity alternative...Gibraltar farm, Silverdale

Post by Harry » Thu Aug 14, 2008 5:49 pm

Hi all,

I've just got back from visiting Gibraltar Farm.

There are plenty of non hookup places available at £9-00p per night. All hookups are fully booked.

If there are less than ten of us then they are going to allocate an area down at the bottom of the hill to the right of the road through the site.

If there are 10 or more then we can have the rally field (through the right hand gate at the bottom of the field) to ourselves and put up the marquee and there may be a price reduction.

There is a bit of mud arounf the gateways but genarally the site is grassy and dry enough, particularly if you are careful where you pitch.

Still aiming for a Jacobs Join on Friday night and a barbie on Saturday if we have enough people.

Please let me know this evening if you are coming so that I can let the site know in the morning about approximate numbers.

If you can't decide until tomorrow, want to do a day visit etc then just turn up..

I've got 6 so far:

Harry
Di & Jamie
Snowkiter
Dreamwarrior
Chief Wiggam (Sat)
Hatris (day visitor)

any more takers?

Bookings and enquiries through me please. DO NOT CONTACT THE SITE.

Busy this weekend ....
(but still trying to get our van going otherwise we will be in the car with a tent ....)
Sounds like a good one ... think I have been to the site before ... many years ago when I lived in lancaster .... be interested in hearing what sort of a time you have .... and might make it next time if you decide to repeat the experieince !

Tell me more about the treasure hunting, are you using metal detectors or have you found a mysterious map and are off for a rip-roaring adventure?

When you have a Bongo everything is a rip roaring adventure. Least ways in my world it is. :D
Take a torch, toilet roll, and tea bags.

The 'Treasure Hunting' is actually geocaching...loking for small plastic boxes hidden away in the countryside and helped by a map and a GPS....to quotethe website...its the sport where you are the search engine.

Its very family friendly with clues to help with the final location of the boxes...in which you will find 'treasure' in the form of small items which you may exchange for something you have brought along.

I'll be doing a few caches over the weekend and would welcome some compasny on some fairly easy walking in a lovely area.

I introduced Snowkiter to Geocaching at Tan Hill and he's already overtaken me in the number of caches visited. I suspect he'll be legging it round on his mountain bike.

You'll be nore than welcome to join us..and I promise that the conversation will not be dominated by recent unfortunate events.

I wish we could come this weekend. Unfortunately I made other plans, as soon as we found out that CF was cancelled and then I had decided not to attend the Red Lion meet.

I would love a go at treasure hunting at some future meet and I'm sure Thomas would enjoy it too.

Have fun all.

Have a great time everyone. I love the site and have a ice cream for us. If we were not going on holiday we would have loved to have come.

Jo: I have found one of my birthday cake books but can't find the rest yet. Will fetch it with me on Saturday.
Will there be any kites this weekend?
