i changed the coolant and fitted a set of flippas hoses today(fitted a treat,thanks flippa).
flushed the rad and rest of system and pleased to see no sludge come out,condition of hoses was ok as well(still glad i changed them though)also fitted a new stat.
choose the mazda method to bleed the system and although i ran out of time to complete it(kids to collect etc).i noticed the temp went very high(almost to h on the dial) and the fans came on when reving to 2500rpm without the stat opening(bottom hose still cold) so i dropped the revs back.
my question is would it be normal whilst doing this for the temp to go up that much-i appreciate its got to get hot for the stat to open but that hot!

have you checked your coolant tank to see if it has burped any air from the system, it does sound like youve an air lock.
you cannot rush the bleeding it has to be right.

coolant level in tank dropped a bit but i kept it topped up also had coolant and air coming out of bleed pipe.

Not normal for the guage to go HOT whilst bleeding. Be very careful.

whats your opinion of the sort of temp should i expect to see on the gauge during bleeding.

yes i do have a mason alarm fitted-which did not go off,been wondering about that!

Ah... nothing to worry about then...Mr Mason was just doing his job....

i dunno 20 questions to get an answer, i had my mason alarm set at just under 5 but whilst towing a small caravan it did start to beep, so its now set at 5/6, and the temp guage did go to the red a couple of times.

fitted it ages ago and i think i set it at 4 possibly 5.

I suspect your problem is here and you need to start from scratch. Good luck.

Was you getting good constant heat from the front and rear heaters rob? Unusual happenings with the heaters is indicative of an airlock, which i'm sure is what you may have.

Remember rob, you can't purge ALL the air from the sytem with the bleeding, the bongo needs to do this itself over the few following days after a coolant change.

That's why the level of coolant drops overnight after a bleed... There is the same amount of coolant in there, but naturally purged air in the system has caused the level to drop via displacement.

i did not have time to check the heaters bdc but will do.

The rear heater should be as hot as the front heater if the stat has opened, allowing the coolant to circulate around the system.
