spots on a new shape

Post by Hotpot » Thu Jun 26, 2008 9:22 pm

Has anybody fitted spots on a new shape into recess bumper spot lights? I noticed they're a slightly different shape to the others. Are they easily available from anywhere? Have got the blanks in at the moment and wouldn't know where to start looking.
Sorry if this has been covered before, but couldn't find much after a good search around on the forum and google/evilbay.

I'm sure someone up your way will come up with a cheaper option

Well I have been looking for foglamps for a couple of years, without finding any of the usual Ring, etc, types that will be a neat job. Problem is in order to fit them you have to cut moulded in tabs where the blanks are in the plastic skirt to remove the balnks, so I have been reluctant to take the job too far without confidence I can fill the holes with some lamps.

Those ones from Bellhill on ebay look like the ones fitted to a Bongo Aero, they dont appear to be the same shape as the blank on our normal new shape (which is a different shape blank/hole to older Bongos)

Checkout the Hella site, there is a catalog you can download with all the dimension, you should find something to fill the hole. I fitted these to my 97.

Thanks guys, where else can you get such good advice and so quick!

Well those look great, there's different options there. I really like those Welly the inset with a smaller bar, very neat job that, I'll check out that site cheers. :)

Hi keefysher, I guess mine's more like yours at the front with an extra trim thing at the bottom (pic), and I guess it leads to another question which was if you can get bullbars to fit, which I haven't got yet. Were they easy to get hold of? I like the idea that doing it that way if there's no cutting and, quite keen to have some angel eyes as well, sorry if I sound like I want I want, but they look the biz ;)

It looks like Keefy had to cut the bumper to fit the bars, they are from an old shape, I don't think there are bars factory fitted to a new shape, don't know if the mounting points had to be modified/manufactured either. Personally I like the lines of yours & would leave well alone - other than fitting spots & fogs of course :D Simon Jones had some nice narrow spots for sale at the bash that should fit in the two lower middle slots in your bumper -very reasonably priced too

I like Wellys Hella lamps a lot. Are they easy to fit Welly?

Just been weighing up your pic anne, if you wanted to keep the valance on your bumper, AND fit the older type bullbars, then a couple of 4-5" holes would need to be drilled into the lower valance part of the bumper... After an hour or two's VERY careful measuring!

I'm still thinking of what fogs would work with the shape of the blanks on your new shape... :-k

I reckon a set of hella micro DE optical fogs, flush fitted into holes drilled into your existing blanks would work well... Subtle, and low-key

Dead easy, they use a single bolt but I spent a lot of time trying different mounting solutions and found this way the best

I used a 626 front foglamp switch to control them but if you try this as well the switch must be wired to switch on negitive or the indicator light will not work. Also life's a lot easier if you also get the switch loom connector with 2" of the cabling to solder to.

Unfortunately, the '97 is not a new shape. The Hellas look great but would they fit a new shape?

The new shape has a subtly different shape as Keith's pics show, or in more detail:

(sorry about the fly carnage on the pic)

...you can see the two tabs either side that need to be cut to fit the lamps.
