Sliding door won't open!!!

Post by mellyarnold » Sun Jun 22, 2008 9:17 pm

Hello people, wondering if anyone can solve this issue.
Mels away camping with her mate and left the key in the ignition last night so the battery was flat in the morning.
She got the van started again by getting jump leads from another car and went driving to charge up the battery. When she came back to open the side sliding door, the motor wouldn't open it! Sounds like its not got any power, but she's on a campsite with electric hookup to charge the batterys back up.

Does anyone know if it's a lack of power, or could it be a blown fuse???? She said when the door was shut the motor made its usual sound, but died halfway through.
Any ideas welcomed people. This could save a damsel in distress!!!!! :P

I had this same problem, although my battery was not flat. As it was due for a service I thought I would leave it and get one of the Mikes to fix it. I then decided to give it a wash and chucked some suds about and let my son loose with a hosepipe to rinse. Magically the door started to work again and has worked perfectly ever since - although it will probably stop working again now due to sod's law.

Not much help to you I know but it made me smile.

Adam,

I seem to recall someone having this problem last year, and after disconnecting the battery and then reconnecting it,it solved the problem.Maybe its resets something.

Yeah, cheers. I will try that.

Ive just seen the other post about a dead door motor and the replacement cost of £1000!!!!!

I just hope that isn't the case!

Will let you know how I get on. Oh by the way, has anyone got an idea how to remove the panel off the side door. I don't want to just pull the plastic trim away and break it!!!!

Given how rare a burnt out door motor is and that Bongos are being broken regularly, you'd hope 2nd hand ones wouldn't be expensive.

Good luck fixing it guys 8)
