Remote locking glitch...any ideas?

Post by Lewy » Sat Jun 14, 2008 10:02 pm

My Hawk remote locking has been playing up recently sometimes it works and sometimes not. So tried today to fix it. Tried to refit actuator in top of door - but just can't see where to fit the unit and make the connection. So tried to fit it in the middle of the door with just one rod, all good but it snagged on the window winder!

So made a long rod out of a wire coathanger and returned to original fitting place at the bottom of the door. Thing is it works pretty well when the door is open, but when the door is shut it hangs up and either does not lock or does not release. The push button also seems to be quite hard to push / pull.

Any ideas please - wasted too much time on this today

Hi lewy, funny you say that i have the hawk alarm fitted with central locking (fitted about 3 months) and 3 days ago mine started to play up ....on unlocking would just unlock the drivers door.....then when driving i would lock the drivers door and when i lift the button it unlocks all...its hit and miss  i was tempted to have a look but not that tempted 8-[ .....i hardly ever have my drivers window all the way down .....(but now you mention an issue with the rods may be catching on summat ) i noticed today that the window was slower to rise and it squeaked a bit as if it was rubbing on something ....so maybe the rod(s) have moved .....i have loads of speed bumps around here so maybe the reason the rods may have shifted .....hmm

Yes, sounds like its catching on something - I was thinking of making a sleeve for the conecting rod so that it doesn't rub or catch on anything. I think the trouble is with the rod from the door handle to the door catch that runs across the inside of the door. When the door is shut, the actuator rod to the button seems to catch more and I can see the push button move when you open the door using the inside handle. I'm going to try and shift the actuator along to fit deeper inside the door tomorrow and then give up! My window definitely snagged with the unit in the middle.

when i first fitted hawk remote locking with thier kit about 10 or so months ago before i changed it to their cat 1 alarm i had probs with the button fob, the battery don't connect well and falls out of position, tinfoil was the cure  As for the rods i just followed fact sheet, it still the same rods and actuator in the door from the first time round [-o< does catch a bit tho but i like my knuckles and can't be doin with the frustration  Maybe worth resetting the rods incase they are catching :?:

dont know if its any use to you guys but when i took out my alarm out of the old bongo, the actuator was fitted at the top of the door not the bottom, and i never had any problems with it at all 8)

Fitting an actuator in the door is always a problem and is one of the reasons I gave up fitting car alarms years ago. Just try to keep the rod between the actuator and the mechanism as short and as straight as possible and be careful where you put the actuator as (as you seem to have found out) they often get in the way of the window mech or of trim clips when putting the door panel back on.
One trick i found was not having the actuator to tightly screwed into place. They sometimes work better if they are not rigid but can move a little bit
Good luck

Rain stops play for a bit. Reset the rod - it is NOT catching on anything now - and is but every now and then the actuator seems to glitch. I took out all the gubbins from the bottom the receiver etc and noticed that this would click when the actuator wasn't working - so wondering if its an electrical fault. I didn't snip all the wires that you don't use when I put it in so there is a whole load of them in the bottom of the door - I checked the earth and bullet conections to the actuator all seems okay too - just shoved everything back in and all seems to work

So should I cut all the redundant wires off and just leave the ones to the actuator? Or just leave it? I have not mounted the reciever box either just put in in the bottom of the door - does this need fixing in place too? Or just put the door card back on and leave it...

Just an update...

After fitting my patented no snag connecting rod the actuator worked perfectly for a bit. Then started to glitch again.

Then I noticed if I opened the door a bit it would work, shut the door it wouldn't. Then I shut the door a bit without engaging the door catch and it didn't work, but open the door a bit and it does!

So to re-cap - push the door a bit shut to the door column and button doesn't go down, open it wider and button works. But now working fine whether open or not [-o< ANY IDEAS its driving me nuts!

At the moment the reciever is not mounted just tucked inside the door frame on top of all the redundant wires that come with it - as is the arie/al too!

check the wires in the door loom sounds like it could be a possible broken or breaking wire thats conecting/making contact when you move the door to and fro.

it might not be broken it might just have a slight crack

Thanks for that but why would this affect the remote locking actuator? Unless its to do with the live wire coming into the door I suppose - I'll check it out. The windows etc all work fine though.
