Spare Wheel
I'm sure this topic has been covered but here goes - As a newbie I'm avidly reading all threads and have noticed a couple of mentions of the tyre on the spare wheel 'not being legal' can someone confirm or enlarge on this. Taa

Re: Spare Wheel
its legal
trouble is if you have a space saver its very small compared to the others and being upto 13 years old would be suspect and restricts you to 40 mph .
better to get a full size spare

Re: Spare Wheel
Get yourself a full size steel wheel and tyre ,then dump the spacesaver,(local recycling dump)
Lost without my Bongo.
Re: Spare Wheel
Excuse my ignorance being a 'noob' here and proud owner of a Bongo for a whole 1 day.....but can a full-size spare be slung underneath in place of the space-saver?

And while you DO have a spacesaver, I believe it has to be at 60psi when in use so make sure the air in it is topped up (I have visions of an old one going 'bang' due to the rubber being perished but I'm sure thats me being paranoid). But get rid as soon as poss!

Re: Spare Wheel
Strictly speaking the spacesaver isn't illegal as such, however, at the last mot,the guy said it was good to see a brand new tyre fitted to the (full size) spare, when i mentioned that bongo's are fitted with a spacesaver as standard, he commented that mazda fitted all these fancy gadgets, then gave a dangerous wheel to get home on in an emergency? He said he would have to fail any vehicle of that size and weight if he saw a spacesaver in the spare wheel well.

As if to remind myself that nothing is simple ... If you have 195s at front and 215s at back (many previous discussions about that) how would you feel about putting a 'legal' spare on if it is the wrong size?
