I am picking up a V6 petrol Bongo soon and actively considering converting to LPG. I live in leafy Surrey and wonder if anyone else has converted theirs in the London area. Any recommendation will help me choose the installer.
I notice from the TFL site that after 29th. October this year, no further vehicles will be considered to be included in the 100% reduction in the Congestion charge which would normally be due to LPG vehicles.
Has anyone managed to get their bongo approved and therefore got free entrance to London. It seems that a vehicle has to be "on the list" and giving off less than 225 grams per Kilometer to qualify. That is about as far as I got dredging through the subject before I thought to raise it here.
Cheers ,
Tim

Hi Tim
I have a V6 on lpg. A couple of guys here helped me. I would recommend firstly that you use a prins system, this works well and a few others have this.
Installers, well I did stacks of research and ended up with a duff one. Don't use battersea autogas.
I have found a good alternative. BPV autogas in Slough is a good place, they know there stuff and have helped me alot. Barry is the main man there. I think the disty in the UK is alternative fuels, I can look up their details next week, they are also very helpful and can do the install too, that is probably the best optoin but they are in andover and southamptom.
Whatever you do please don't just take it anywhere, there are lpg forums with horror stories, I was lucky but I still had problems. Don't be put off mind, LPG is very good and for me I get payback in around 16k miles, car runs great on gas and it's much cheaper. It's all down to the system and more importantly the installer. They all have to be registered by the LPGA but they don't care about sorting out the bad installers of which I don't think there are that many but please go to someone that is recommended and does a good job.
Not sure on congestion charging, I think you are okay, firstly you have to get the DVLA notifed and registered as dual fuel, then you register with TFL and pay £10 a year.
Lessons I've learned is get the installer to test the Lambda sensor, they go wrong after around 50k and are cheap to replace but this makes good mpg. Also get decent spark plugs, Denso Iridium IK16 is about the best, cheapest source a motorbike shop in USA but 2 day delivery. They make a good difference.
Good luck, it's well worth it. PM me if I can be of any further help.
Andy

Re: V6 LPG conversion recommendation wanted
Thanks Andy,
Great advice. I shall act on it and spend some time checking out the system you suggest. All the various systems seem to offer solutions for problems which mean nothing to me and as a techie myself, am pretty sure the wonder cure for these supposed ailments will have issues of their own! A satisfied user's recommendation is worth its weight in gold.
Thanks again,
Tim
