the outer tent is waterproof. it is best if you let it dry before closing the roof, if that's not possible then wait till you get home and if its not raining open the roof to let it dry, probably the same thing you would do with an ordinary tent.
Lost without my Bongo.

Totally waterproof, from my experience of using it. Not tried it when heavy rain is being blown horizontal by high wind. But I don't think we're due for that are we? Enjoy 8)

Foolishly ( never again) used it in quite high winds with driving rain ( window blew out on the campsite workshop! ) My tent was in new condition as the van had only done twenty odd thousand miles .Totally watertight - - - -

That's nice to know, I have always wondered if it was water proof :)

I found out just this last weekend quite how good the roof tent is.
Llanberis, seemingly gale force winds, plenty of rain. We were woken up several times during the night with the Bongo rocking from side to side, and the tent being whipped in the wind, but we stayed totally toasty and dry! I was worried at times that something would rip out or get torn, but all fine the next day.
Truly impressive - how many other pop-top vans would be confident about surviving such an onslaught?!

we,re wimps (or rather i am) dont put the roof up in really bad weather - but when it was warm and wet( instead of cold windy and wet) we put it up and it was waterproof.

Bear in mind you may get condensation inside it, mostly from you exhaled breath, don't confuse this with a leak, BUT - air it really well ASAP after use in wet weather.

We don't put ours up in high winds either, just not that brave.

I'd say get a tin of Nikwax (Around £5 from any outdoor shop) and smear that around the zips, it will also help them slide too... it's water based so no lasting damage from Chemicals etc.

I fully agree on the 'air it' principle or you will wind up with mould growing on the fabric
