Rusty arches AhhhhhhhRG!!

Hi, got me some rust comeing through on the back arches . Nightmare.. What is the consensus for repair ? cut out and graft new metal ones. ( can they be got, and where)
Or high quality paint job? with a look at the inside leaf possible internal treatment. I have a great pro paint guy with an oven n stuff, but not a body/ weld it in guy

I was thinking of doing a bottom half colour change anyway but if the rust will return then it needs nailing first.

Tell Me how to make the bad rust stop!!

You could try grinding it out and "lead- loading" the area...lots of kits available in classic car sites....make sure that you have the interior trim out when doing it!!!!

I have some rust on my rear passenger wheel arch, it was there when I imported the Bongo.
It used to weep water after a run in the wet. I think I have stopped this now.
What I did was to paint hammerite underseal with waxoil under the wheel arch, paying attention to the lip where the out & inner wheel arch are joined.
I feel this is where water is getting in and since painting it with hammerite underseal with waxoil the rust patch does not leak water any more. So hopefully this summer I can repair the rust patch.

Waycar8 is the man to speak to about this, he's had one side done already using a cut out panel from a breakers fitted & sprayed. Results look pretty good so far. Its the most sensible long term fix & hasn't cost too much to get done. He'll be putting some before & after piccies on here soon . . . .

thanks folks im going to go with the treatment (internal and external) rather than a cut out and new bit in job as there is a lot of good metal there and the idea of cutting away seems exessive, but I understand the risk of rust return if we dont get it right .

I'll let you all know how it works out, (possibly in 12 months, or so) my spray guy is very skilled and he recons if we can get at the arch from inside the vehicle as well as investigating thre join in the two skins then we can get it stopped, fingers and toes crossed.

The decision is partley based on me wanting a bottom half metalic purple up to the mid line respray, My bongo is a white one with the grey stick ons with purple flashes with "full time 4wd" at the bottom and a purple and grey flash type thing up on the side of the aft. so, metallic to match the purple in the aft grafic and this makes all the iccle tiny spots of rust here n there get delt with in the process. will it look pants I don't know. I may add a couple of 3" stripes at the top of the solid colour just for flash. see it in pics once all done.
