EGR blanking plates - fitting

i got the set from allans and have just been trying to fit this - the front one nearest the front of the bongo - no problem but i am strugling with the rear plate - ths is obviously a fiddly job but made worse because of the limited space i have under the seat due to the side conversion.

my question - can i just block off the front one ? would this have the same affect ?

i am only fitting due to a little black smoke when i put my foot down and trying to get more economy

Dunno... what effects do you need to fix?

Use one plate at the EGR end to blank off a valve problem. Use one at the inlet manifold end to blank off a pipe problem. Blank at both ends for both problems.

in between the seats if you pull the join in the carpet apart there is a gold coulered plate if you remove this it helps but it is a bit fiddly; worth it though not quantified it but a definite improvement good luck !

will look for that gold coloured plate - thanks for the tip ! However if i still cant get to it and i just fit the other easier one (to front of bongo) what effects will the single blanking plate have ? is it worth doing ?

With 2 plates you effectively block off both ends of the same pipe. By fitting the one at the front, you have sealed the inlet side, but left the exhaust gas passing through the EGR valve into the blanked off tube. As far as I can see, you have still broken the connection between the 2 manifolds. On mine, someone seems to have welded the valve shut at the exhaust end, but it still does the trick. I can't see any problem with leaving it as just one end blanked.

think i will just blank off the front unless this gold plate will give me more access - will atke a look later

fitted the front plate today and went for a 10 min test drive all seems well - hope i dont hve to take it off as the bolt snapped on one of the sides when i was tightening so the plate is now there to stay - i hope !

still not sure what affects if any i will get ?
