Has anyone fitted a hands-free phone kit to their Bongo? In my works van I have a Nokia Cark-91 hands-free kit, and it's great. I'm thinking of getting one for the Bongo so that I can use the same phone in there as well, but I have a couple of questions. Firstly, what connection is required on the radio for muting the output when the phone is answered? Secondly, where best to fit it?
I have found a source of these kits for under £15.

Hi,
The radio (depening on the model) will have a wire labelled phone or mute, you connect a wire from the Nokia kit to that (I think it maybe yellow from memory).
I don't think there is a connection in the ISO terminal for this, maybe wrong. Take a look at the radio manual or radio itself to find the wire.
Haven't fitted one in the bongo, but there is stacks of space behind the glove box or radio area to fit the conrol box and wiring, it's quite small and would then keep the cable runs short.

Re: Phone kits

I found this place ideal - it's high enough to see - yet directly in line with the door pillar, so doesn't obstruct your view ( important at MOT time!!)
I seem to remember there is one wire to the stereo to mute - works well.

Re: Phone kits
Thanks for the info. That looks like an ideal position Mike, and I think that's probably best all round as it doesn't obscure vision and it wouldn't be likely to cause an injury in event of a collision.
I think your memory is right Andy. I have looked at a wiring diagram for the car kit on-line, and it does appear to be the yellow wire.
Thinking about it, I would imagine my radio is too old to have a connection for phone muting, so I would probably have to replace that too. Perhaps I'll treat myself to a new radio for the Bongo, and relegate the existing one to my boat. I had been thinking of fitting one on there anyway.
Cheers,
Colin.

Re: Phone kits
You could always use a telemute.
No need for cutting into any wires, or searching for mute connections and the added bonus is that it uses the vehicles speakers for the audio.
If you are interested, pm me for more info. If you let me know if you have standard ISO connection, then I think I have got a few in stock. I got them from Co-star in Yorkshire and I'm sure I have one or two aerials as well..
When I sort my Bongo out eventually, I am going for the Nokia CK7W, bluetooth, phone can stay in pocket then.

Re: Phone kits
weird I just spent an hour taking the Nokia car kit that the last owner had in the Bongo out!
I'm sure there is some sort of philosophic phrase for One man Taking out a car kit when another is putting one in....
But as you can see I am no
