Cleaning the injectors

Anyone got any advise on whether its worth / wise to clean the injectors? If so, how? They're quite sooty, but the mechanic whose helping me with my overheating problems says they're quite a precise piece of engineering with very tight tolerances. Suggestions either way much appreciated.

Every 6/7 tankfulls,i buy the proprietory injector cleaner ,available from most garages
£7 ,does two tankfulls and is supposed to increase MPG/performance...not sure if it does, but i get it anyway.

Might be worth giving them to a diesel injection specialist or local college to spray test for performance.

Your mechanic is quite correct simon, the injectors are very finely tuned pieces of kit,the spray pattern determines how well,or not your engine will run...

Cheers BDC. I'll have a read - it looks like they only do petrol injectors
